For the last year, the Dilnot Commission have been investigating aspects of Adult social care in order to make proposals to the Government how the social care system can be improved and funded.
The reports to the government are available at the bottom of the following webpage http://www.dilnotcommission.dh.gov.uk/2011/07/04/commission-report/ .
The full report is long and wordy but the the pamphlet https://www.wp.dh.gov.uk/carecommission/files/2011/07/Fairer-Care-Funding-Pamphlet.pdf and Easy read document http://www.dh.gov.uk/prod_consum_dh/groups/dh_digitalassets/documents/digitalasset/dh_128019.pdf give a basic overview of some of the suggestions made.
Although the vast majority or the suggestions are good for disabled people, one thing that might not be popular for people here in K and C could be the possible changes to elegibility. There are 4 levels of need (Low, moderate, substantial and critical) and RBKC currently assists people with moderate, substantial and critical needs. One of the suggestions in the report was to have a nationally agreed elegibility and that should be for people in the Substantial and Critical bands (so, if the suggestions go ahead people with Moderate needs might not recieve care).
We just have to wait to see if the Government accepts / acts on any or all of the suggestions.
